Konferencja w Krakowie: Izrael i Europa

W imieniu Koła Nauk Politycznych UJ zapraszamy do udziału w konferencji „Izrael – Europa. Wyzwania nadchodzącej przyszłości” planowanej na 25 marca 2010.

Organizatorzy piszą: "Niniejsza konferencja ma na celu przedstawienie złożonych relacji Izraela z Europą na gruncie analizy bieżącej polityki ale także wspólnych układów między stronami w przeszłych latach, które to dały podstawy współczesnym działaniom. W toku omawiania wzajemnych relacji, szczególny nacisk zostanie położony na obecne stosunki Polsko- Izraelskie i perspektywy ich rozwoju w przyszłości, a także szeroko pojętą politykę pokojową w bliskowschodnim rejonie i możliwości zawarcia konsensusu w tamtejszych relacjach."

Zachęcamy do zgłaszania prac naukowych i udziału w konferencji.

Wystąpienie izraelskiego wiceministra Danny'ego Ayalona

W czasie wizyty w Wielkiej Brytanii izraelski wiceminister Spraw Zewnętrznych Danny Ayalon wystąpił 8 lutego z wykładem w londyńskim International Institute for Strategic Studies.

Wykład zatytułowany "Bliski Wschód: Wyzwania i możliwości" wyjaśniał m.in. że konflikt izraelsko-palestyński to zaledwie jeden, i nie najważniejszy, element skomplikowanej bliskowschodniej rzeczywistości. Wyzwaniem dla całej społeczności międzynarodowej są m.in. zagrożenie ze strony Iranu, sytuacja w Iraku, sytuacja na pograniczu afgańsko-pakistańskim w Jemenie i Sudanie. Ważniejszy niż konflikt z udziałem Izraela jest nawet problem braku wody w regionie.

Minister Ayalon wskazywał na trudności ekonomiczne świata arabskiego, cytując ostatni raport ONZ, według którego 40% ludności w krajach arabskich żyje poniżej poziomu ubóstwa. Poprawienie tej sytuacji będzie wymagało m.in. lepszej współpracy przy podziale zysków z dostępnych w regionie surowców naturalnych.

Mimo to rozwiązanie konfliktu izraelsko-palestyńskiego jest nadrzędnym celem obecnej administracji. Minister Ayalon zapewnił, że izraelski rząd oczekuje na partnerów do rozmów pokojowych od samego początku swojego sprawowania władzy i z chęcią rozpocznie negocjacje wstępne.

W swoim wystąpieniu izraelski minister nawiązał również do destruktywnej roli Iranu dla stabilności w regionie. Zarówno program atomowy Iranu, jak i jego wspieranie ruchów ekstremistycznych oraz terroryzmu w Syrii i Strefie Gazy, są najważniejszym wyzwaniem dla państw Bliskiego Wschodu i społeczności międzynarodowej.

You will find there information concerning higher education in Israel, scholarship opportunities, Polish institutions providing Hebrew and Jewish studies programs and current status of the youth exchange intergovernmental project.

Announcing a conference in Krakow

Student's Association of Political Science Faculty at the Jagiellonian University has announced a call for papers for an upcoming conference. The conference will be held on 25th March 2010 in Cracow and its subject is "Israel - Europe, challenges of the future".

The conference's aim is to examin past and present relations between Israel and the European States, in a context of the Middle Eastern complex situation.

Deputy FM Ayalon addresses IISS in London on Mideast issues

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon spoke on Monday (8 February 2010) at the prestigious International Institute for Strategic Studies in London.

The Deputy Foreign Minister explained to the audience of high-level diplomats, media and academia that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not the central conflict in the Middle East. "Today, the Israeli-Palestinian is only one piece of an unsolved puzzle in the Middle East which also has to deal with the Iranian threat, the situations in Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan-Pakistan, Sudan, Yemen, and the list goes on," Ayalon said. "It is even more fundamental that we address the water shortage and other basic needs."
However, Ayalon explained that Israel is doing all it can to end the conflict. "We have been waiting patiently, but urgently, at the negotiating table since the inception of this government over ten months ago for the Palestinians to join us," Ayalon said. "We are confident that the Palestinian leadership will accept the Mitchell guidelines which call for a resumption of peace talks, even if it will be proximity talks. Proximity talks are not our first choice, but they are better than no talks."
Ayalon pointed the finger at Iran for being at the source of all the problems in the region. "If the Iranian issue is solved, the region will only be the better for it," Ayalon said. "Iran uses its nuclear ambitions as the means to create a regional hegemony."
