Saudi king blames oil prices on speculators, taxes
Source: Yahoo.com, June 22, 2008 King Abdullah said Sunday that Saudi Arabia was not to blame for soaring oil prices and instead pointed his finger at speculators, high fuel taxes in consuming countries and increased oil consumption in developing economies. The king, who opened a high-level oil summit in the port city of Jiddah, said the world's largest oil exporter already had increased its production to 9.7 million barrels a day. Abdullah did not announce any further, specific crude increases. "In the past few months we have raised our daily production of oil from 9 million barrels to 9.7 (million) barrels," he said. "And we are ready to meet any additional demands in the future." The U.S. and other Western nations have put increasing pressure on Saudi Arabia to increase production, saying insufficient oil production has not kept pace with growing demand. (…) |

Qatar By Artur Kus, March 24, 2008
Qatar (Arabic: قطر, officially the State of Qatar (Arabic: دولة القطر, transliterated as Dawlat Al-Qatar), ruled by the Al Thani family since the mid-1800s. On September 3, 1971, Qatar became an independent state (independence from the United Kingdom). GDP (PPP), $m 35,971 (IMF, October 2007) Qatar's national income primarily derives from oil and natural gas exports. Statisticaly, Qatar ranks as the seventh richest country in the world per capita and has the highest GDP, per capita, in the Arab World according to the International Monetary Fund in 2007. With no income tax, Qatar is also one of the two least-taxed sovereign states in the world (the other is Bahrain) Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani (Arabic: الشيخ حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني) became the Emir of the State of Qatar on June 26, 1995 after deposing his father, who was vacationing in Switzerland at the time. He has three wives, nine sons and six daughters. Under Emir Hamad, Qatar has experienced a notable amount of sociopolitical liberalization, including the enfranchisement of woman, a new constitution, and the launch of Al Jazeera (Arabic: الجزيرة ), a leading English and Arabic news source, which operates a website and satellite television news channel. First Christian Church Opens in Qatar eMiddle East, March 20, 2008 AP Photo: Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Thu Mar 13, 2008 Doha, Qatar (Arabic: قطر) - This wealthy Arab Gulf country is opening its first Roman Catholic church, ending decades of clandestine worship for tens of thousands of foreign workers. The consecration of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, appears to be a sign of Qatar's efforts to open up to the West as it seeks a bid for the Olympic Games in 2016. Qatar's ruler has also approved five churches for other Christian denominations, all under construction next to the Catholic one. Attracted by a booming oil economy, expatriate workers make up at least 70 percent of Qatar's population of about 1 million. Some 150,000 Christians of all denominations live here, over 90 percent of them Catholic expatriate workers from the Philippines and other Asian nations, answering the call for cheap labour. Qatar follows the rigorous Wahhabi teachings of Sunni Islam, and like neighboring Saudi Arabia had not previously authorized Christians to practice their faith openly. But a priest had operated in Qatar since the 1960s without official approval, said Archbishop Paul Hinder, the Apostolic Vicar of Arabia and the top Roman Catholic cleric in the region. "Catholics in Doha finally have their home where they can gather in freedom and security," Hinder said by telephone from his base in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Qatar's emir, Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, personally donated the land to build the $15 million church with 2,700 seats in the outskirts of the capital, Doha, church officials said. |

Miliard dolarów dziennie z eksportu ropy i gazu (PAP, dd/13.03.2008, godz. 15:58) Wiadomości cytat za portalem: onet.pl Cena rosyjskiej ropy naftowej Urals doszła już do 100 dolarów za baryłkę; gdy osiągnie 108 USD, łączne dochody Rosji z eksportu ropy i gazu ziemnego przekroczą 1 mld dolarów dziennie - wyliczyli eksperci.
Według korporacji finansowej Uralsib, obecnie Rosja zarabia na eksporcie ropy 755 mln USD dziennie, a ropy i gazu razem wziętych - 945 mln dolarów.
