New fuel efficiency standards ambitious but attainable
WASHINGTON, DC--(June 26, 2009) - A new study from PFC Energy finds that meeting the accelerated 2016 Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards announced by President Barack Obama will reduce US gasoline consumption by 1.1 million barrels per day compared to 2008 and by 120,000 barrels per day compared with the goals set by the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA).
PFC Energy offers an interactive flash model below that allows users to test different scenarios. The model allows users to see how US fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions could evolve through 2025 based on changes in vehicle sales, technology and ethanol use. |

Despite OPEC’s December cut, oil prices are still falling. What can OPEC do to halt this?
Less than a month has passed since OPEC took this decision. And so I would say it is still too early to write off the possible effect that this could have on the oil market. As you may recall, when the OPEC Conference met in September 2008, we reviewed the situation in the market, which we found to be over-supplied; therefore, we took the decision to reduce production by 500,000 barrels a day. In October, we again reviewed the outlook and the market was still over-supplied. As a result, we decided to mop-up the excess crude in the market by reducing production by a further 1.5 mb/d. And, once more, at our most recent Conference in Oran in December, an additional decrease of 2.2 mb/d was agreed by Member Countries. This brought the total cut since early September to 4.2 mb/d. All in all, we will not know the full effect of the latest 2.2 mb/d reduction, and the degree to which Member Countries have adhered to it, until February 15. |

The 152nd Meeting of the Conference of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) convened in Vienna, Austria, on 15th March 2009, under the Chairmanship of its President, HE Eng. José Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos, Minister of Petroleum of Angola and Head of its Delegation, and its Alternate President, HE Eng. Derlis Palacios Guerrero, Minister of Mines and Petroleum of Ecuador and Head of its Delegation.
The Conference congratulated HE Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on his appointment as Minister of Oil of Kuwait and Head of its Delegation, and similarly congratulated HE Dr. Rilwanu Lukman on his appointment as Minister of Petroleum Resources of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Head of its Delegation. |

Eurochambres z żalem przyjęło informację, że po dwóch tygodniach wyczerpujących negocjacji w Genewie, rozmowy WTO w ramach tzw. eMiddle East, Kopenhaga, 26 sierpnia 2008 Centralny Bank Danii przejął kontrolę nad Roskilde Bank, ósmym co do wielkości banku Danii w celu zapobiegnięciu kryzysowi finansowemu. „Chcieliśmy zabezpieczyć finansową stabilność w Danii. Alternatywą byłoby to, iż Roskilde by zbankrutował co by pociągnęło za sobą falę przez cały sektor finansowy”, powiedział Nils Bernstein, dyrektor centralnego banku w Kopenhadze. Nazionalbanken (Centralny Bank Danii) oraz około 100 finansowych instytucji dofinansują Roskilde Bank kwotą 4,5 miliardów koron (603 mil. Euro) oraz przejmą zobowiązania oparte na hipotekach w wysokości 35 mld koron. Roskilde Bank ma 24 oddziałów i około 100 tys. klientów i jest drugim bankiem Danii, który stoi w obliczu problemów z płynnością. Z początkiem roku Trelleborg był zmuszony połączyć się z Sydbankiem. Największymi bankami w Danii są: Danske Bank, Jyske Bank oraz Sydbank.
